Average expiration date on our products is 2 - 2.5 years. So you wouldn't even get close to expiration date.

Heartgard comes in a chewable treat. If you think that would be a problem we can suggest Bayer's Advocate or Pfizer's Revolution/Stronghold products. They also prevent heartworm disease as well as fleas and some other intestinal worms. Both are topical treatments.
